Commsworld and Plimsoll celebrate listings in Sunday Times Profit Track

16 Oct 2020

Two LDC-backed businesses celebrated being featured in this year’s Sunday Times Profit Track list at a virtual event hosted by the Sunday Times last night.

TV production company Plimsoll Productions placed 3rd after recording an average profit growth of 116.1% over the last the three years. Meanwhile digital connectivity specialist Commsworld placed 23rd after recording an average profit growth of 72.8% over the last three years.

LDC backed the Founder of Plimsoll Productions, Grant Mansfield and his management team, in an £80m deal in August last year. With LDC’s support and minority investment, Grant and his team continue to drive the business forward, investing in its natural history and documentary divisions and pursuing further expansion into the US and new global markets.

Despite the pandemic, the business has pushed on and in September 2020 acquired specialist distribution and rights management company Magnify Media. The acquisition enables Plimsoll and Magnify to share resources and further accelerate their growth plan.

The business recently launched its hugely popular Tiny World documentary on AppleTV+. The programme is narrated by Paul Rudd and gives viewers a unique insight into the ingenuity and resilience of some of the world’s smallest creatures.

Commsworld, the Edinburgh-headquartered telecommunications and ISP provider, was backed by LDC in December 2019. The business provides connectivity, cloud, security, unified comms, and IT infrastructure services to the public and private sectors.
It has benefited from a shift towards more digital ways of working in almost every industry and regulatory changes that allowed it to bid directly for contracts with the UK’s largest private and public sector bodies. The business recorded an 18% increase in revenue in the financial year ending December 2019.

Delighted for Commsworld to be ranked in this league table, this is a fitting accolade to our entire team as we continue to innovate and disrupt the Telecom Sector.”
Ricky Nicol, CEO
Commsworld

This Sunday Times Profit Track placement follows on from a successful few months at Commsworld after being recognised as 27th best performing technology company and 2nd best performing Telecoms Company companies in the Megabuyte 50 Awards.
