Plimsoll Productions and LDC win deal of the year at the South West Dealmaker Awards

LDC won Deal of the Year at the South West Dealmaker Awards for its investment in Plimsoll Productions. The winners were announced at a special Insider online forum which took place on Wednesday 21st October.

The awards, which judged investment activity in the South West between May 2019 and April 2020, recognised LDC’s investment in Plimsoll Productions as the standout mid-market deal during this period.

LDC completed its minority investment in the Bristol-headquartered television production company in August 2019. The deal, which valued Plimsoll Productions at £80m, is helping the management team, led by Founder Grant Mansfield, to continue to invest in its natural history, documentary and factual entertainment divisions and make further headway into the US and new global markets and genres.

Since partnering with LDC last year, the business, which also won The Company of The Year at the South West Dealmakers Awards, has acquired specialist distribution and rights management company Magnify Media. It recently appointed former US talent agent and unscripted TV dealmaker Mark Itkin to its board.

One of its productions, ‘Tiny World’ just launched on Apple TV+ and gives viewers a unique perspective into the natural world, illuminating the ingenuity and resilience of some of the planet’s smallest creatures.

Dewi Hughes, LDC’s Head of the South West, who led the team’s investment in Plimsoll and spoke at Insider online forum, was Highly Commended in the Dealmaker of the Year category.
