LDC Top 50 2019
Founded in 2014 by Wayne Spriggs, Lusso Stone designs all its own products, offering luxury at affordable prices. Wayne was previously a property developer but couldn’t find high-end bathroom products without spending tens of thousands of pounds.
“I visited factories around the world that made high-end bathrooms and took the risk and set up a website,” he says. Today, the business is opening centres in the US and he is building a legacy for his son who joined the business earlier this year. “The brand is so popular that I’m confident the sky is the limit for us.”
How have you got to where you are today?
Prior to this, I was a property developer, but I couldn’t find high-end bathroom products without spending tens of thousands of pounds. I took it upon myself to visit factories around the world that made high-end bathrooms. I took the risk and set up a website. I have designed the whole range myself – I have a keen eye for detail. That’s been key to our success. We supply these products at reasonable prices and now we are growing so fast we can’t recruit fast enough to meet demand.
What’s your personal ambition?
I want to build a business that I can hand over to my son. It’s not about the money as I was already financially stable when we started, and I don’t touch the money from the business. My son joined eight months ago as a junior executive. He might even take Lusso to a different level and be better than me. Sometimes you have to let someone else have a go. In four years, I’ll be knocking on 50 and want some time off so he can take over.
What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever received?
Gymshark founder Ben Francis said the best decision he ever made was when he stopped trying to do everything himself and let staff take over. That stuck in my head, so I tried it and he was exactly right; it’s the best thing I’ve done. It was very hard to let go but humbling to see that I’m not the only person who can do what I do.
