We started the month by welcoming Boston Energy, a technical services provider to the wind energy industry, into our portfolio. Our investment in Boston Energy will help the business play an essential role in the global transition towards net zero. It was recently awarded a significant new contract to support the Dogger Bank Wind Farm in the North Sea, the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
We continued to support the ESG efforts of our existing portfolio companies throughout July. From the launch of sustainability charters, taking positive strides towards net zero and supporting global transparency programmes, here’s a snapshot.
Cellhire: Joining the global drive to net zero
Cellhire, a York-headquartered global provider of mobile Voice and Data and Internet of Things (IoT) communications services, has partnered with a specialist consultant to bolster Project ACT, its journey to net zero project. Flotilla’s expertise will allow Cellhire to understand and measure its carbon footprint in a granular, actionable way. The partnership will ensure that Cellhire’s journey to net zero is not just ambitious but also delivers meaningful, measurable actions.
Mi-Hub: First workwear provider to join wastewater transparency programme
Derby-based global workwear solutions supplier Mi Hub became the first uniform provider to join Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC)’s wastewater transparency programme, ‘Roadmap to Zero’. The group of brands aims to reduce and eventually eliminate hazardous chemicals from manufacturing and production processes in the textiles, leather and footwear industry. In 2020, Mi Hub pledged that 80% of its fabric volume would come from mills participating in wastewater testing by 2025 and being part of ZDHC’s network will help it to meet that target.
Independent Governance Group (IGG): Charting its sustainability commitments
London-based leading professional pensions trusteeship and governance services firm IGG has launched its sustainability charter. Created by Head of Sustainability Tegs Harding, the charter will reinforce IGG’s commitment to place sustainability at the heart of its approach to professional trusteeship. The Charter includes promises to members as well as wider asks of advisers and asset managers, all designed to help drive real-world change and act as a force for good within the industry.
The Edwin Group: Supporting positive social impact
The Edwin Group’s specialist recruitment business, Vision for Education, is giving back to schools in Wales through its Opportunities Fund, enabling young people to access activities, experiences and resources that weren’t typically offered to them.
Beyond our portfolio
In early July, LDC attended The Black Pound Marketplace at Battersea Power Station, an event that showcased and celebrated some of the young black business owners that LDC supports through The Prince’s Trust Explore Enterprise programme.
