LDC scoops four awards at Wales Dealmakers

LDC’s South West & Wales team took home four awards at Insider’s Wales Dealmakers Awards 2023.

The team landed Funder of the Year, Private Equity Deal of the Year and Deal of the Year for its investment in Idwal Marine Services, and Dewi Hughes took home the top award as he was named Dealmaker of the Year.

The awards, which spotlight the achievements and contributions of the Welsh dealmaking community, were held at Mercure Cardiff House Hotel. The judging panel commended LDC for working on deals worth more than £185m during the period and Dewi Hughes was praised for his continued commitment to developing the Welsh economy through private equity investment since establishing the firm’s Welsh office in 2016.

LDC’s investment in Cardiff-based Idwal Marine Services, a leading provider of tech-enabled inspection services for the global commercial shipping sector, won Private Equity Deal of the Year and Deal of the Year. Described as “the deal that keeps giving”, the transaction was commended for enabling the company to develop its technology and services and expand into markets including China, Greece and Japan. It was also noted that it will unlock further growth at the company’s headquarters in Cardiff and help towards its aim of becoming a global industry leader.

LDC-backed Kerv also took home International Deal of the Year for its acquisition of Trusted Data Solutions’ voice compliance practice. The acquisition was praised for providing fresh investment in Trusted Data Solutions’ remaining base in Cardiff.
