LDC supports finales of major charity art trails in Bristol and Manchester

LDC supported the hugely successful finales of Manchester’s Bee in the City and Bristol’s Gromit Unleashed 2 charity art trails in October, both of which raised significant funds for worthy local causes.
The auction in Manchester concluded the Bee in the City art trail which covered Manchester’s streets, parks and cultural venues with over 230 individually designed bee sculptures this summer in celebration of the city’s unique buzz. The auction raised a staggering £1.1 million for We Love MCR Charity’s Stronger Communities fund, which provides grants of up to £2,000 for initiatives that bring communities together to celebrate diversity and build stronger relationships. LDC sponsored North West mural-specialists One Red Shoe’s creation, USBee, which embodies Manchester’s growing reputation for innovative, cutting-edge technology. The bee fetched an amazing £19,500 on the evening.
In Bristol, The Grand Appeal’s Gromit Unleashed 2 auction raised an total of £1,321,500 for Bristol Children’s Hospital and St Michael’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The auction followed the conclusion of a two-month art trail where 67 giant sculptures of Nick Park’s Academy Award®-winning characters Wallace, Gromit and Feathers McGraw appeared across Bristol.
LDC’s Bristol team jumped at the chance to purchase their favourite design and raise money for The Grand Appeal. The team won the bidding war for ‘Draco’, a Gromit sculpture designed by Bristol artist The Knitted Pea. We’re looking forward to welcoming our newest member of the team to our Bristol office in Temple Quays in the very near future!
LDC’s sponsored design, Gromit P. Sullivan, also raised £22,000 in the charity auction. The design was created by Natalie Guy and inspired by Monsters. Inc, having the fluffy and spotty detailing of one of Pixar Animations’ most-loved monsters, Sulley. All the money raised at auction and throughout the Bristol trail will go towards helping the patients and families cared for at Bristol Children’s Hospital and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael’s Hospital.
