Headquartered in Cheshire, SRL boasts a nationwide network of 29 depots. It has the industry’s biggest range of temporary pedestrian and traffic light systems and is the UK market leader in sale and hire to the traffic-management sector.

Its equipment is used on many of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, providing customers with 24/7 support and maintenance services.

Building on a successful track record

In September 2019, we invested £24m to back the management buyout of the business, as it embarked on the next phase of its growth strategy.

The buyout was led by SRL’s existing CEO Richard Tredwin and his management team.

Under his leadership SRL had already grown rapidly to employ more than 140 people, operate a fleet of more than 7,500 units and record a turnover of £18.4m in the 2018/2019 financial year.

With our support, Richard and his team have kick-started a multi-million-pound capital investment programme to accelerate organic growth.

This includes expanding SRL’s current hire fleet, developing its manufacturing capability to increase production and investing in new product development to further broaden its service offering.

The management team is also exploring targeted acquisitions to support further diversification of SRL’s capabilities.

The partnership with LDC has so far helped to deliver a 28% increase in revenue to-date, through continued investment across the business, all while staying true to the ‘SRL way’.

SRL CEO Richard Tredwin set up a charitable initiative, the Tredwin Endowment Fund, in March 2020. Its first donation – standing at £105,000 – was to Quartet Community Foundation, to support educational and age-related projects. £15,000 was also diverted to support the national fight against COVID-19 and charities working in the local area.
