LDC’s Dan Smith and Gareth Marshall recognised in Real Deals Future 40

Dan Smith, Partner and Head of Yorkshire, and Gareth Marshall, Partner and Head of North East and Scotland, have been named in Real Deals’ Future 40 Mid-Market Investment Leaders list for 2024.
The list recognises the investment professionals who have navigated another 12 months of challenging conditions to deliver successful outcomes for their firms. This includes leading notable transactions, and making a significant contribution to the private equity community and the businesses it supports.
Dan Smith was praised for leading the firm’s two new investments in Yorkshire. This included LDC’s partnerships with Sheffield-based student accommodation advertising platform UniHomes and Boston Energy, the technical services provider to the wind energy industry. In addition, the judges also recognised the leading role Dan has played in six exits, which have generated an average return of 3x, since he joined LDC in 2015.
Beyond transactions, Dan was commended for leading his team’s support of local charitable causes, having organised bi-weekly football matches to raise donations for children’s hospice Martin House, and playing an instrumental role in LDC’s long-term partnership with youth charity The Prince’s Trust.
The judges recognised Gareth for leading the firm’s exit of Newcastle-headquartered iamproperty to Perwyn in October 2023, following a successful four-year partnership. With Gareth and his team’s support, iamproperty recorded transformational growth. Revenue and EDITBA grew by 3.5x and 4.5x respectively for the year ending October 2023, with headcount almost trebling from 180 to 530 during the course the partnership.
Gareth was also praised for spearheading the growth of LDC’s Newcastle-based team, his role in LDC’s new company-wide training programme for junior investment team members and leading his team to support local charitable causes across the North East and Scotland.
