LDC hosted a selection of business leaders from across our portfolio and the wider market on Tuesday night to discuss the major opportunities and challenges facing UK landlords and property developers in the current macro-economic environment.

The evening included dinner and networking, and speeches from Matt Burgess, Chief Investment Officer at Lloyds Living, and Simon Scott, Lead Director of JLL Living Capital Markets.

Simon is a Board member of the BPF Residential Council, a Senior Adviser to The Housing Growth Partnership, and a member of the recently established BTR Taskforce.

Lloyds Living, which – along with LDC – is part of Lloyds Banking Group, has a mission to make renting a good quality home an easier and more enjoyable process, and has a growing portfolio of over 5,000 professionally managed homes to rent.

Key themes discussed on the evening included:

  • Housing supply versus demand, and the role investors can play
  • Importance of a high-quality supply chain in the context of higher levels of regulation, including the Building Safety Act and Renter Rights Act
  • Viability challenges and issues around forward funding structures
  • ESG and technology considerations

John Clarke, Partner at LDC, said “The Built Environment is a focus area for LDC given our unique involvement in the space through Lloyds Living and the wider Lloyds Banking Group, along with our strong track record supporting management teams in the sector, including recently exiting and re-investing in HSL. We were delighted to bring together a wide variety of technology and service providers in the sector for an evening of networking and discussion on key opportunities and challenges they are facing.”

In the last decade, LDC has invested over £640m in 29 business services companies, with a combined enterprise value of £2.2bn. The average revenue growth for exited businesses over the same period is 122%.  See more about how we have supported a range of business services companies on our sector hub.

LDC thanks all the attendees for attending the event.
