This year marks the 15th charity quiz and we’re thrilled to have raised more than £155,000 for eight worthwhile causes this week, which is a record in the history of the LDC charity quiz. This brings the total amount we’ve raised since 2005 to over £1.6million.
The annual quiz is a cornerstone of our firm’s charitable commitments – we’re committed to contributing £5m to charitable causes over the next five years – and we were grateful to be joined by colleagues and friends from across the country for an evening of fun and fundraising at this year’s events.
More than 220 teams competed in eight events across the country this week, with Edinburgh’s quiz due to take place later in November. Money was raised through generous team donations and ‘on the night’ fundraising events, such as raffles and auctions. It’s these donations that enable us to support such a broad range of charity partners and ultimately make a significant contribution to causes that are important to the firm, our people and the communities in which we operate.
The quiz helped to raise funds for eight critically important causes that support those within the areas which our teams live and work. We’ve also held long-standing partnerships with many of these charities:
North East & Scotland: The Greggs Breakfast Club Programme was established in 1999 to help primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day.
Yorkshire: St Gemma’s Hospice has been providing expert care to the people of Leeds for over 40 years. They provide the best possible care and support for local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
North West: Wood Street Mission improves the life chances of children and families living in poverty by contributing to the creation of a society where all children have equal access to those items necessary for their wellbeing and education.
West Midlands: Birmingham Children’s & Women’s Hospital Charity makes a real difference to the lives of thousands of families across the UK when facing incredibly difficult circumstances.
East Midlands & East of England: When You Wish Upon a Star has a simple mission, to grant the Wishes of children living with a life-threatening illness. Since 1990 they have granted over 18,000 Wishes across the UK.
London: London’s Air Ambulance charity delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London, serving the 10 million people within the M25.
South West & Wales: Bristol Sport Foundation is on a mission to use the power of sport to create active, healthy, happy communities across the region.
South: Camp Mohawk is a multi-functional day centre for children with special needs and their families. Throughout the year the centre provides a range of activities, facilities and natural space to encourage children to play, socialise and learn.
We’d like to thank everyone who has supported us over since 2005 – to raise £1.6million is a fantastic milestone and something we’re committed to continuing as part of our ongoing charity commitments.
