The charity art trail ‘Bee in the City’ opens this week and features USBee, an LDC-sponsored sculpture designed by Cheshire-based artists Fiona and Neil Osborne from One Red Shoe.
Over the next two months, a colony of more than 100 individually-designed bee sculptures will appear across Manchester, each representing the unique buzz of the city from its industrial heritage to its vibrant music scene.
LDC is sponsoring One Red Shoe’s creation, USBee, which embodies Manchester’s growing reputation for innovative, cutting-edge technology. Standing on a hive of binary code, the bee is painted as a circuit board with computer chips representing honeycomb hexagons, and can be found on King Street.
An app will be available to download during the two-month trail and when USBee is located, the visitor will be able to unlock a sponsor reward. We are delighted to have partnered with our portfolio company Lakelovers who are providing USBee finders with an opportunity to enter a competition to win a £250 voucher towards a holiday in one of their beautiful Lake District Holiday Cottages.
Visitors taking part in the trail will discover the city’s landmarks and hidden gems and will get the chance to buy their favourite sculpture at the charity auction in October. All proceeds will be donated to the We Love MCR Charity, which brings the people of Manchester together to make a positive impact on communities across the city.
We’re extremely proud to be supporting the event and helping raise money for We Love MCR and you can keep up to date with the event here.
We’ll see you on the trail!
